(India) he has a Bachelor's degree in
Economics and a Master's degree is
Political Science.
Politics: A member of the Congress party, he was elected to the lower house of Indian parliament (Lok Sabha) in 1977, 1980, 1984 and 2004. Elected to the upper house of Indian parliament (Rajya Sabha) in 1994 and 2000. He has held the position of Minister of Steel, Mines and Coal briefly in the central government.
Interests: Walking, swimming, rifle shooting, billiards, chess, cooking, astrology and music.
Married 30 January 1971 Rani Preeti Devi (daughter of Raja Purna Chandra Deo Bhanj of Daspalla).
